  • (11/18/2024) At the Case Management Conference (CMC) in November, the court agreed with our request to increase the Bellwether pool for the upcoming April trial. Specifically, she agreed to increase the number of soot and ash households that would be representatives at the trial. These new additional households will be randomly selected in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we've continued to take witness depositions and with discovery efforts in preparation for the trial. We have begun scheduling mediations on a rolling basis and will connect with you as your case is selected.

  • 2024-11-18 Update Letter

  • Additional context:

    • At the most recent case manage conference, the court moved the trial date to November 7, 2025. While we know this is slightly later than originally planned, there is still extensive discovery that needs to be done, and we are still waiting on the US Forestry Service to produce their investigation report--which is a critical piece of discovery in our case.  As part of his ruling, the judge set a bellwether selection date in April 2025.

  • 2024-11-6: At the October Case Management Conference, we succeeded in persuading Judge Sherman to deny Defendant’s request for a trial continuance. The trial will proceed, as scheduled, on February 10, 2025, and will determine Southern California Edison’s and T-Mobile’s respective liability for starting the Silverado Fire. There will be a further Status Conference on December 19th, 2024.

In the meantime, we have been taking depositions of key witnesses as we complete the discovery phase of litigation.

Team Shout Outs:

  • Nicholas McInvale was nominated for his fantastic work ethic and ability to build great rapport with his clients. He is great at calming down clients who have frustrations with the timing of case resolution. His language is incredibly empathetic and descriptive while explaining how the litigation process works and how we continuously fight for our client's resolution. He's always down to help with projects as they come up and has been a huge help with discovery (DQ) outreach for multiple cases as well as connecting with clients as urgent outreach and documentation is needed. He is very observant and communicative of missing links in internal communication, which has helped guide improvements towards interconnectedness between teams. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, Nicholas!
  • Isabel Martin was nominated for her fantastic work on the last pro-rata payments. During our largest payment batch for DN4s, Isabel successfully sent out over 4,000 checks while also managing an in-office team to support her efforts. Throughout this demanding period, she maintained a positive attitude and worked extended hours to ensure the completion of all tasks. We greatly appreciate Isabel's exceptional contributions and dedication as the sole in-office team member on the FVT Settlement team.
  • Christine Melkomian was nominated for continuing to absolutely slay in HPCC. Christine has done a fantastic job working up some of the more complex cases in the HPCC Fire and helping countless clients navigate the extremely frustrating claims process set up by FEMA. She has also consistently been a mentor to the less experienced team members and has helped with the onboarding of new employees. Thank you for all that you do, Christine!
  • Nathalie Jimenez was nominated for her fantastic work on the damages discovery team! She has gone above and beyond to help keep our workload organized, while also mentoring team members and meeting her own deadlines.  She takes on complicated damages issues with a thoughtful and strategic approach.  Additionally, she volunteers at Singleton Schreiber events and is always looking to provide value to the firm. Awesome job, Nathalie!
