Zakia Butler-Chamberlain

Associate Attorney

Overview

Zakia is an Associate Attorney at Singleton Schreiber, where her practice focuses on personal injury and wrongful death cases. A native and lifelong resident of the State of Mississippi, she is committed to advocating for clients and pursuing justice on their behalf. 

Prior to joining the firm, Zakia began her legal career as a Junior Staff Attorney for a Standing Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee. She went on to serve as a law clerk to the Honorable Latrice Westbrooks of the Mississippi Court of Appeals, where she gained valuable experience in appellate practice and judicial decision-making. Zakia then joined the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office as a Special Assistant Attorney General, representing the State of Mississippi in felony criminal appeals, and most recently served as a Staff Attorney with the MS Office of the State Public Defender, where she represented clients on direct appeals from felony criminal convictions. Through these roles, she developed extensive experience in legal writing, case analysis, and advocacy. 

Zakia earned her J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi. Her career reflects a sustained commitment to advocacy, outreach, and mentorship, which continue to inform her client-centered approach to legal practice. 

She remains actively involved in the legal profession through leadership and service with the Mississippi Bar, the Mississippi Association for Justice, and the Magnolia Bar Association. She is also a member of the American Association for Justice, the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys, the Society of Women Trial Lawyers, the Mississippi Public Defenders Association, and the Charles Clark Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
