Overview

Maya Hoyt serves as Counsel in Singleton Schreiber’s Birmingham, Alabama office, where she represents individuals and families in personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and trucking litigation. A proud Birmingham native, Ms. Hoyt brings deep local roots and an unwavering commitment to justice to every client she serves. 

Ms. Hoyt began her legal career at a corporate defense firm specializing in representing automotive manufacturers. After two years, driven by her passion for helping individuals who have suffered serious injuries, she transitioned to plaintiff-side personal injury work. She now focuses her full-time practice on cases involving car accidents, trucking litigation, wrongful death, and medical malpractice. Her courtroom experience includes successfully handling and trying multiple medical negligence cases. In 2024, she was part of a trial team that secured an $8 million verdict in a medical negligence case, and she has also obtained a $15 million verdict on behalf of the family of a young man whose healthcare providers failed to recognize and respond to his signs and symptoms of a life-threatening condition. 

Throughout her career, Ms. Hoyt’s dedication and skill have earned her recognition from numerous organizations. She has been named to the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 and the National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40. In 2024, she was honored as the Magic City Bar Association’s Rising Star. 

Ms. Hoyt is deeply engaged in the legal community across Alabama. She is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, where she serves as Law Student Outreach Co-Chair and was a member of the 2024–2025 Future Leaders Forum. She is also a member of the Magic City Bar Association and the American Association of Justice. Ms. Hoyt is admitted to practice before the State of Alabama and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama. 

Ms. Hoyt earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, graduating magna cum laude, from Spelman College in 2016, and her Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2020. During law school, she served as President of the Black Law Students Association and was a two-time member of the nationally acclaimed BLSA Mock Trial Team. She was honored with the Certificate in Public Interest Law, the Order of Samaritan—the highest public service award presented by the law school—and the Dean Thomas W. Christopher Award, bestowed annually by the Student Bar Association to a student who has made a significant impact on legal education and the law school community. 

A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Ms. Hoyt is active in community affairs and serves in various leadership roles throughout Birmingham. Outside of her legal practice, she enjoys reading and traveling.
