New Video Appears to Show Flashes at SoCal Edison Towers Before Eaton Fire

On June 11, 2026, Singleton Schreiber partner Paul Starita was featured by NBC Los Angeles discussing newly surfaced surveillance footage that appears to show flashes near Southern California Edison transmission towers around the time the Eaton Fire ignited in January 2025. The video, captured by a security camera at the Gerrish Swim and Tennis Club in Pasadena, shows flashes visible near Edison equipment in the hills above the community.

Attorneys representing the club have theorized that an active electrical line may have energized an inactive line, potentially creating an arcing event that ignited nearby vegetation. The footage adds to previously released video evidence that appeared to show flames burning beneath a transmission tower on the night the fire began.

Discussing the significance of the footage, Starita stated, "There was an arcing event on the towers. The molten metal falls to the ground, they ignite the vegetation, and unfortunately it rips through the canyon." Southern California Edison has stated that the newly released footage appears to show the same flashes captured in earlier video and has expressed support for providing the footage to investigators as the Eaton Fire investigation continues.
