The Fairview Fire ignited on September 6 near the desert community of Hemet, CA, about 80 miles southeast of Los Angeles. It erupted amid triple-digit temperatures and severe drought conditions during a record-setting heat wave.
Two people were found dead in a vehicle and another was taken to the hospital with severe burn injuries after the fire swept through several neighborhoods, leaving at least seven structures destroyed and several others badly damaged.
The official cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Southern California Edison (SCE) notified the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that there was some “circuit activity” close to the time the fire was reported.
