A nationwide recall has been issued for certain frozen spinach products made by Sno Pac Foods after testing revealed potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) emphasizes that Listeria can pose serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as young children, pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The recall involves both bulk and packaged frozen spinach sold in retail stores across the country, as well as ready-to-eat meals produced by FreshRealm, a food service company that supplies meal-prep services, including HelloFresh. FreshRealm is also under scrutiny for a separate, ongoing, deadly, nationwide listeria outbreak involving pasta, raising concerns about the company’s food safety practices.
Listeria contamination in frozen vegetables is a serious concern because the bacteria can survive at cold temperatures, meaning that even properly stored frozen foods may carry the risk of infection. While healthy adults may experience only short-term symptoms, listeriosis can lead to severe or fatal outcomes for those in high-risk groups.
Consumers across the country are being advised to check their freezers and immediately take action if they purchased any affected products.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with these products, but the FDA advises consumers who purchased any of the recalled items to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
The Risks Associated With Listeria And What Safety Measures Consumers Should Take
Listeria monocytogenes causes listeriosis, a serious infection that can affect anyone, but is especially dangerous for young children, older adults, immunocompromised people, and pregnant women. Symptoms of illness can vary and may include:
- Fever, headache, and muscle aches
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions
Symptoms can last from one to three days, but in high-risk individuals, listeriosis can lead to hospitalization or death. Pregnant women face elevated risks, as infection can cause miscarriage or stillbirth.
Consumers can protect themselves by:
- Checking their freezers/fridges for the recalled products
- Discarding or returning any affected items immediately
- Seeking medical attention if they experience symptoms consistent with listeriosis
“Listeria contamination can have life-altering consequences for families, especially for pregnant women and vulnerable individuals,” says Andrew Bluth, attorney at Singleton Schreiber. “Companies have a duty to ensure their products are safe, and when that duty is breached, consumers have the right to take action to protect themselves and hold those responsible accountable.”
The Legal Implications Associated With Food Contamination
Food producers, distributors, and retailers have a legal responsibility to ensure their products are safe. When contaminated food reaches consumers, those who become ill may have the right to pursue compensation for:
- Medical expenses related to treating listeriosis
- Lost wages due to time away from work
- Pain and suffering from illness or hospitalization
- Wrongful death claims in severe cases
Even when illnesses have not yet been reported, recalls demonstrate a failure in safety protocols and highlight the need for accountability. Legal action can help protect victims, prevent future outbreaks, and hold companies responsible for lapses in food safety.
If you or a loved one consumed any of the recalled food items, you may have legal options to seek compensation. Contact Singleton Schreiber today for a free, confidential consultation to discuss your case.
