Why Truck Crash Cases Are Really Investigations,
Not Just Claims

Most people picture a truck crash claim as something manageable: document damages, file with insurance, wait for a check. The truth is these cases are often more complex and require in-depth investigation. The trucking company's lawyers and insurance adjusters often arrive within hours, but they aren't there to help the victim. Instead, they are there to weigh risk, get ahead of the evidence, and shape the record before the injured side can respond.

Commercial trucks generate a remarkable amount of data. The black box captures speed, braking, and engine behavior before impact. Dash cams and driver-facing cameras record what the driver was doing and road conditions. GPS systems log stops, route deviations, and timestamps. Dispatch communications may reveal whether the driver was pushed to keep moving when they should have stopped.

Driver logs show whether federal hours of service limits were exceeded. Maintenance records reveal what the company knew about the truck's condition and whether those warnings were ignored. Internal emails, text messages, and company memos can expose decisions made long before the crash.

These are just a few reasons why timing is everything. The injured party needs legal representation immediately to ensure that data and crash evidence is not lost.

The question of who is legally responsible rarely has a simple answer. Truck operations include many levels; the driver, the carrier, a leasing company, a shipper, a third-party maintenance contractor and one or more may bear liability. Identifying all of them takes real investigative work.

At Singleton Schreiber, we start building the case from day one. Because by the time the other side finishes their first phone call, the clock is already running.
