Partner Brett Schreiber Published in Advocate Magazine Discussing the “Client Trust Protection Program”

Singleton Schreiber partner Brett J. Schreiber had an article published in Advocate Magazine discussing the “Client Trust Protection Program”.

The State Bar has created a new registration and certification program known as the Client Trust Protection Program (CTAPP). Brett describes the program as well intended following the well-known Tom Girardi scandal in which he robbed clients of tens of millions of dollars. However, he describes the program as being poorly executed.

The program requires an attorney to register their trust accounts and certify their compliance with a host of rules designed to ensure greater transparency in handling and distribution of client funds. This is an overview of the new rule regime to help an attorney avoid committing a presumptive violation. The article will raise questions that are currently unanswerable due to the lack of meaningful input the State Bar sought out from the California Plaintiff’s Trial Bar.
