Marisa Ong was featured in an Albuquerque Journal investigation examining the rise in federal habeas corpus challenges tied to immigration detention in New Mexico. The reporting highlights a case she handled involving the detention of a young Indigenous man with lawful protections and situates New Mexico at the center of growing legal challenges to prolonged civil detention and denied bond hearings.

Our team, led by Knut Johnson and Brendan McDonald, secured a U.S. Supreme Court ruling vacating an Eighth Circuit decision in Zielinski, allowing our client to present a statutory defense at trial under the International Parental Kidnapping Act. The decision removes restrictive precedent and sends the case back for further proceedings.
