Press Release

LOS ANGELES, CA – The family of Jaime Alanis, a farmworker who died following an unlawful raid at Glass House Farms in Camarillo, California, is seeking answers and accountability from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Together, The Simon Law Group and Singleton Schreiber, have filed a notice of claim, a requirement under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), with ICE on behalf of Mr. Alanis's wife, Leticia Cruz Vázquez, and daughter, Janet Alanis. The claim raises concerns that excessive force used by ICE agents contributed to Mr. Alanis’s fall and ultimate death.

On July 10, 2025, dozens of ICE agents in unmarked, military-style vehicles lacking license plates raided Glass House Farms. The masked agents wore battle gear and made indiscriminate arrests using excessive force, including rubber bullets, tasers, and tear gas. During the raid, Mr. Alanis fell over 30 feet from a greenhouse roof onto concrete below. He suffered catastrophic injuries, including a broken neck, broken skull, and severed artery. Mr. Alanis was placed on life support and hospitalized until the morning of July 12, 2025, when he died of his injuries.

“The death of Jamie was entirely preventable and resulted from ICE's reckless use of military-style tactics against peaceful farmworkers,” said founding partner Brett Schreiber at Singleton Schreiber, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs. “Jamie was simply doing his job when federal agents created a war zone that cost him his life, leaving behind a devastated family who deserves justice.”

"Jaime Alanis did not deserve to lose his life,” said Robbie Munoz, partner at The Simon Law Group, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs. “He was a hardworking man, devoted to his family and community. July 10, 2025, was supposed to be just another workday—but instead, it became a scene of chaos and fear. The aftermath of his death has left his family with more questions than answers, and it is our mission to find those answers. We are committed to seeking justice for his family and to ensuring that Jaime's name and story are shared in a way that honors his life and legacy."

The estate brings a survival action seeking damages for Mr. Alanis's pre-death pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost earnings, and funeral costs, while his wife and daughter file a wrongful death action for loss of financial support, services, consortium, and inheritance he would have provided. If ICE denies the claim or fails to act within six months, the family can move forward with filing a lawsuit in federal court.
