Elizabeth Aniskevich, Senior Counsel, and Jennifer Yadoo, Associate Attorney at Singleton Schreiber, are representing the National Association of Consumer Advocates in a lawsuit featured by HousingWire in the article “Consumer Group Sues Unison, Alleging Deceptive Marketing of ‘No-Debt’ Home Equity Investment,” published on February 11, 2026.

The lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, claims that Unison promotes its home equity investment as a “no-debt” option, but structures deals that work much like mortgage loans secured by property liens.

The complaint argues that the product is an unlicensed mortgage that does not meet federal and local consumer protection laws. The lawsuit aims to stop Unison’s practices in Washington, D.C., and cancel current agreements due to alleged unfair and deceptive actions.
