California Wildfire Survivors Petition to Join State's Investigation into State Farm

Michelle Meyers, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was featured by SFGate in an article titled "California Wildfire Survivors Petition to Join State's Investigation into State Farm," published on June 21, 2026.

Meyers represents the Every Fire Survivors Network, a coalition of Eaton and Palisades fire survivors seeking party status in the California Department of Insurance's ongoing investigation into State Farm's wildfire claims handling practices.

The petition follows a state investigation that identified 398 violations across 220 State Farm claims, including slow investigations, underpayments, denials, and poor communications. The group, which represents 1,600 misconduct claims, is seeking a more systematic review of State Farm claims, increased payouts, and larger penalties, as well as systemic reform addressing insurer conduct across five other major California disasters since 2017.

"The survivors want a more systematic review of State Farm claims, more payouts, and a larger penalty for State Farm," said Meyers.
