Las Vegas, NM - November 16, 2022 - Gerald Singleton and other attorneys from leading fire litigation firm Singleton Schreiber held a free town hall on Thursday November 10th, 2022 to answer questions regarding claims in the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fires and Mudslides.
The town hall was held at:
- Pam’s Event Center at The Palms Ballroom, 225 Plaza Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701 starting at 5:30 PM
The combined Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire was among the largest wildfire in New Mexico State history, destroying hundreds of homes and over 300,000 acres. Shortly after the fires, the monsoon rains caused massive flooding and erosion damages.
On September 30, President Biden signed the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act (also known as the “Lujan Bill”) into law. The Act creates a fund to compensate victims of the fires and mudslides and has been funded with an initial appropriation of $2.5 billion.
“We applaud Congress and the President for passing this bill and obtaining the initial $2.5 billion” said Gerald Singleton, Managing Partner. “Because obtaining compensation for fire and flood damages is very complicated, we held a town hall to answer the community’s questions regarding the Act and how it would be administered.”
