Wildfire Home Contamination Testing Bill Advances to Assembly Floor
Michelle Meyers, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was featured in news coverage about California Assembly Bill 1642. This proposed law would set statewide rules for testing and cleaning homes, schools, and workplaces after wildfires.
Meyers, who represents homeowners affected by the Eaton Fire, talked about worries over contamination after wildfires. She stressed the need for clear, science-based rules to help families know when it is safe to go home. The bill comes as people in Eaton Fire communities are still dealing with health and environmental problems from lead, asbestos, and other dangerous materials released during the fire.
The bill would set clear statewide steps for testing and cleaning up after wildfires, responding to public health concerns in communities across California. AB 1642 recently passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee and will likely go to the Assembly Floor for a vote soon.
