Gerald Singleton, Managing Partner at Singleton Schreiber in San Diego, was recently featured by NBC News in their article, "The Families of L.A. Wildfire Victims Confront the Failures That Prevented Escape".
The article focuses on the personal accounts of some survivors of the 2025 Eaton Fires which killed 17 individuals, displaced many Altadena families, and destroyed thousands of homes. The article highlights that many of the fire's victims were elderly, disabled, or both; the systematic failures in the emergency response; California's history of being unprepared for regions being beset with increasingly frequent wildfires; the delay in evacuation procedures; and the lack of support for the vulnerable in general.
"Are we OK with these events happening, or are we going to spend the resources we need to build effective systems to put out warnings and assist people?” said Mr Singleton, who is representing some victims of the Altadena Fire. “Are we going to make sure that they are able to evacuate in a timely manner, or are we going to say, ‘This is not a service government provides. You are on your own?’”
