Elizabeth Aniskevich, Senior Counsel at Singleton Schreiber, was recently featured in KUSA-9NEWS in an article titled “Retiree loses $2,000 in scam after attempting to sell old bike.” In the article, Aniskevich discusses the rising threat of scams on peer-to-peer payment platforms like Zelle and highlights the systemic barriers victims face when trying to recover their funds.
“Zelle and the banks that operate on the platform should be the ones that are able to access this information,” she said. “They have more money, they have more power. But it's often left on the consumer to find a way to do that.” Aniskevich, a former enforcement attorney with the CFPB, noted that the lack of federal regulatory pressure makes meaningful reform difficult, despite growing consumer harm.
