In a recent article, "Liberty Mutual Declined to Renew This Southern California Homeowner’s Policy. Now She’s Suing," featured in the Los Angeles Times, a lawsuit was filed by Maria Badin, a Southern California homeowner, against Liberty Mutual for refusing to renew her longstanding insurance policy. The insurer cited an aerial inspection that allegedly identified roof contamination, which Badin contested with evidence from a licensed roofing company confirming her roof was in good condition.

The lawsuit led by Michelle Meyers, Counsel of Singleton Schreiber, claims Liberty Mutual and other insurers are unjustly dropping California homeowners to maximize profits amidst a shrinking insurance market influenced by climate risks and rising costs. Meyers adds that, “Homeowners, who have dutifully paid their premiums for years, have been, and are, being blindsided by Defendants’ non-renewal notices informing them their policy will not continue — for stated reasons that are demonstratively false.”

Badin is seeking damages and policy reforms through the proposed class action.
