Brian Colón, Managing Partner of Singleton Schreiber's New Mexico law offices, was recently featured by KOAT Action 7 News in their article, "Leger Fernandez Says She Is Pushing for FEMA to Pay Fire Victims; 117 Have Sued," published on August 22, 2025.

The article provides an update on the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire lawsuit, noting that victims of New Mexico's largest wildfire have now sued the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to expedite the distribution of $6 billion in federal funding.

Mr. Colón, representing some of the 117 victims who have sued the federal government, highlighted the prolonged battle for aid:

"The gravity of what those communities in northern New Mexico went through cannot be overstated. We've been doing it for about two and a half years now. It's been three years plus a month since the fire, and we are still fighting for our clients."

The article notes that Congresswoman Leger Fernandez expressed similar frustrations and her ongoing commitment to her constituents:

"We had the power of the purse. We convinced the president, Biden, to sign it. But what we had problems with is FEMA did not staff up. That's where FEMA messed up, is they didn't hire the people so that they could process those claims on time."

"I have my phone, and we've been bugging them and pushing them and fighting with them to do better."
