Danielle Ward Mason, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was featured by CBS News on October 15, 2025, in an article titled, "High Court Rules Georgia Woman Can Sue Hair-Relaxer Makers Over Uterine Fibroids."
The piece reports on the recent Georgia Supreme Court ruling allowing a woman to proceed with her mass torts lawsuit against hair-care manufacturers Strength of Nature and L’Oréal over claims that chemical hair relaxers contributed to her uterine fibroids.
The article explained that while the manufacturers argued her claims were barred under Georgia’s 10-year statute of repose for product liability, the state’s high court rejected that interpretation, clarifying that the law applies on a per-unit basis rather than to products sold over time. This decision allows plaintiff Kiara Burroughs to pursue claims for any units sold within 10 years of her lawsuit, allowing negligence and misrepresentation claims to continue while sending certain fraud allegations against L’Oréal back for more detailed pleading.
Addressing the decision, Ms. Mason said:
"It really starts with the accountability that need to be taken by the manufacturers of these products who make decisions that could make these products safer. They don't.”
CBS News added that the manufacturers have a 10-day window to request reconsideration before the case proceeds in Georgia courts.
