Altadena Now

Michelle Meyers, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was recently featured in Altadena Now in an article titled “Eaton Fire Survivors Continue to Target Multiple Insurers Over Alleged Bad Faith and Underinsurance.” In the article, Meyers discussed a lawsuit the firm filed against Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company on behalf of the Greer family, alleging the insurer delayed payments, demanded excessive documentation, and treated the family like adversaries rather than policyholders following the devastating Jan. 7 Eaton Fire.

Meyers stated the case is intended to set a precedent for fair treatment of policyholders in catastrophic fire situations, emphasizing, “We hope this lawsuit sets a standard that this behavior… is unacceptable for an insurance company.” Meyers also underscored the broader issue, noting, “Insurance companies know they have the upper hand in dealing with policyholders… They delay payments, and sometimes they flat-out refuse to pay. All of these tactics are illegal in California.”
