Matthew O'Day

Associate Attorney

Overview

Matthew O'Day is a member of Singleton Schreiber’s Wildfire Litigation team, representing survivors of catastrophic wildfires throughout California. His passion for helping those impacted by disasters stems from his personal experience, as his own hometown was nearly destroyed by a utility company-caused wildfire. Matthew has successfully represented clients in major cases such as the 2017 North Bay Fires and the 2019 Kincade Fire, ensuring survivors receive the justice and compensation they deserve.

Before joining Singleton Schreiber, Matthew honed his skills as a Disaster Relief Attorney and developed a disaster relief program and built a support network for disaster survivors. He also led training programs for attorneys and volunteers on handling disaster-related legal issues.

In addition to his litigation work, Mr. O'Day has provided extensive support to wildfire survivors, assisting them with FEMA claims, temporary housing, and navigating the complexities of government benefits. His commitment to disaster relief extends beyond the courtroom, as he has volunteered with the Disaster Legal Assistance Collaborative, where he helped flood victims prepare appeals and provided pro bono legal services.

Mr. O'Day earned his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he contributed to the USF Maritime Law Journal. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California, Davis. Matthew is deeply involved in his community and is passionate about improving disaster response efforts. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities and staying connected with the people he serves.

Mr. O'Day is admitted to practice law in California and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
