Dave Romero, Jr.

Dave Romero, Jr., is a member of our firm’s personal injury and wrongful death and public entity law practice groups in Singleton Schreiber’s Las Vegas, New Mexico, office. Mr. Romero has practiced law for more than 35 years. He has extensive experience as a plaintiff’s attorney and prefers representing the individual against larger insurance firms.

In addition, he has served both as in-house and outside counsel for state agencies, local governments, regulatory bodies, and local government associations in New Mexico. He served as general counsel for the Corporation Commission, New Mexico’s largest regulatory body, and for the State Treasurer’s Office, the Office of the State Auditor, and the New Mexico Association of Counties. Mr. Romero has been the city attorney and county attorney for most communities in northeastern New Mexico and has also served as an assistant district attorney and assistant attorney general.

He has many years of court appointments in state custody cases, where he represented fathers and mothers who were accused of abuse and neglect. In this process, he also served the children as a guardian ad litem and youth attorney. Mr. Romero has also worked to protect the due process rights of those committed to the state mental institution.

Mr. Romero earned a Master of Public Administration degree, with a focus on finance and negotiations, from the Harvard School of Government. He graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

Mr. Romero served as president of the New Mexico Municipal Attorneys Association.

He is admitted to practice in the state of New Mexico.

Mr. Romero has been married to Diane Lujan Romero for more than 30 years, and they have two children and one grandchild. He loves to play racquetball and placed third in the national doubles championship (there were only three competitors). Mr. Romero is currently applying for co-citizenship in Spain, based on his Spanish-American ancestry.
