Premier fire litigation firm Singleton Schreiber names attorney Paul Starita as its newest partner. Paul exclusively represents plaintiffs in catastrophic personal injury and mass tort matters in State and Federal courts.
Paul has had a long, successful career as a trial attorney, including having served the people of San Diego and Imperial counties as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for over 18 years. He was a federal prosecutor for 10 years before serving as a civil trial attorney having investigated and prosecuted more than 1,000 felony cases. He has tried more than 50 jury and bench trials in federal court. For 30 years, Paul served as a U.S. Marine on active duty and in the Reserve. As a Marine Judge Advocate, he served in a wide variety of roles to include lead counsel on Clean Air Act matters in the Marine Corps’ western region, military trial judge, and appellate judge on the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals.
Recently, Paul has helped lead the firm’s efforts in representing victims and survivors of the Maui wildfire in Lahaina. Paul is Singleton Schreiber’s lead Hawaii attorney and is representing individuals in several lawsuits including a wrongful death case and an environmental class action against the utilities on the island, Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc., Hawai’i Electric Light Company, and Maui Electric Company.
“Paul exemplifies everything our firm stands for,” said Managing Partner Gerald Singleton. “He’s a tenacious trial attorney who loves to be in the courtroom, he fights hard on behalf of his clients, and he’s dedicated to the well-being of others. We’re proud and fortunate that he’s a part of our partnership.”
“Singleton Schreiber is at the forefront of fire litigation lawsuits in several states, and I’m grateful to have an active role in leading this effort,” Paul said. “Holding utility companies accountable for putting people and communities in harm's way is what I live for, and I’ll be doing that for a very long time as a part of this firm.”
