Singleton Schreiber, San Diego’s premier consumer advocate law firm, filed a class action lawsuit in Missouri Federal Court alleging Bass Pro Shop purposefully misled consumers as to the warranty on a popular brand of socks sold at the shops.
The brand of sock in question is the RedHead Lifetime Guarantee All-Purpose Wool Socks. The lawsuit alleges that in 2021, Bass Pro Shop changed a long-term policy wherein the store would honor lifetime warranties and provide a new pair of shocks at no charge. Bass Pro Shop changed its policy last year, only replacing socks with a new, different pair that comes with a limited 60-day warranty. In addition, this brand of sock now has a different design so that employees know which socks require the 60-day warranty.
The Lifetime Warranty is a key selling point for this sock brand, according to the website, and is even the language used in TV, print, and internet advertising campaigns.
According to the lawsuit, Bass Pro Shop sold and continues to sell thousands of its socks, claiming this Lifetime Warranty assurance to consumers. None of the advertisements disclose that the Lifetime Warranty is, in reality, only a limited warranty.
