Brett Schreiber, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was recently featured in Business Insider in an article titled “Tesla Must Pay $243 Million After Being Partly At Fault Over Fatal Autopilot Crash.” In the article, Schreiber represents the family of Naibel Benavides Leon and Dillon Angulo, who sued Tesla after a 2019 crash in Key Largo left Leon dead and Angulo seriously injured. A Florida federal jury found Tesla 33% responsible due to flaws in its Autopilot system and awarded $243 million in damages against the company.
Schreiber called the verdict “justice for Naibel's tragic death and Dillon's lifelong injuries,” stating that it holds Tesla and Elon Musk accountable for “propping up the company's trillion-dollar valuation with self-driving hype at the expense of human lives.” The lawsuit alleged that Tesla knowingly allowed Autopilot to operate on unsuitable roads and exaggerated the system’s capabilities while concealing its deficiencies, turning everyday drivers into unwilling test subjects.
