Singleton Schreiber was recently featured by The Hill in their article, "San Diego County Residents Launch Second Suit Over Alleged Sewage Treatment Plant Failures".
The article covers Singleton Schreiber's mass action lawsuits against Veolia Water Operating Services, Veolia Water North America-West, and Mark Wippler (an employee of Veolia) which were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and in the San Diego County Superior Court on Tuesday.
Arguing on behalf of residents impacted by the Imperial Beach Sewage Spills, Singleton Schreiber is seeking to hold Veolia responsible for the influx of untreated sewage, heavy metals and other toxic chemicals that have been discharged in the Tijuana River and Pacific Ocean, which they argue can be dated back to 2018. The plaintiffs also argue that Veolia had acted negligently and that their behavior directly led to the property damage, personal injuries, and environmental harms that Imperial Beach residents continue to face.
"[Veolia] knew that the contamination would cause a significant risk of injury and illness. [They acted]...recklessly and with conscious disregard to human life and safety.”
The article also provides a history of the South Bay Plant, their history in using allocated funds from Congress for renovations, and the statements made by Veolia spokespersons in response to the plaintiffs claims.
