San Diego County Board of Supervisors Hosts Legal Observation Training

Knut Johnson, Partner at Singleton Schreiber LLP, was featured by CBS 8 in an article titled “San Diego County Board of Supervisors Hosts Legal Observation Training,” published on March 3, 2026.

Johnson led a legal observer training organized by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. He taught participants about the legal limits of watching federal enforcement actions. He also explained how to identify themselves as legal observers, keep a safe distance from law enforcement, and document what they see without interfering.

The training covered First Amendment rights and explained the difference between lawful observation and interference during federal immigration enforcement. This session was part of a larger effort to help community members understand their rights and responsibilities when documenting enforcement activities, especially as legal observers face more scrutiny.

"We're trying to explain to people that everyone has a place in our First Amendment protests. Where our citizens exercise their rights. Not just the people who want to chant or run around. But people who step back and observe," Johnson said.
