Knut Johnson, Senior Counsel at Singleton Schreiber in San Diego, was recently featured by Santa Cruz Sentinel in their article, "Monterey County Residents Sue Vistra, Others for Damages Due to Moss Landing Battery Fire".

The article provides an overview of the recent lawsuit filed in Alameda County against Vistra Corp, Moss Landing Power Company, Dynergy Operating Company, LG Energy Solution, and PG&E by Singleton Schreiber and famed environmentalist Erin Brockovich on behalf of residents affected by the 2025 Moss Landing Battery Fire.

According to the plaintiffs in the suit, Vistra & these companies had acted negligently in their storage of thermally unstable batteries, for using a failed water suppression system, and for overcrowding lithium-ion batteries which contributed to the spread of the fire and exposing the area to toxic chemicals.

Santa Cruz Sentinel's article also highlights the recent town hall held by Erin Brockovich and Singleton Schreiber where they discussed the lawsuit, explained how the suit was a mass tort and not a class action, how residents could join the lawsuit, and how residents are expressing concerns about their health in the aftermath of the fire, including reports of shortness of breath, tasting metal, and finding difficulty in accessing testing.

"Be your own best advocate," said Mr. Johnson. "Go to your doctor and tell them you’ve been exposed to the smoke and heavy metals, you want to be tested, and you want your insurance to pay for it. The more people that advocate, the better.”
