Brett Schreiber, Founding Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was recently featured in Futurism in an article titled “Lawyer Who Defeated Tesla in Court Posts ‘Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta’ by Geto Boys.” In the article, Schreiber is recognized for securing a $243 million verdict against Tesla in a landmark Autopilot case involving the 2019 death of 22-year-old Naibel Benavides Leon. Schreiber emphasized that Tesla’s marketing and courtroom narratives are starkly different, using Elon Musk’s own public statements to highlight the dangers of the company’s Full Self-Driving claims.
In an interview with The Verge, Schreiber explained: “There’s Tesla in the showroom and then there’s Tesla in the courtroom... Those statements were as untrue the day he said them as they remain untrue today.” He also called out the company’s decision to release a beta product to the public, saying Tesla prioritized profits over safety. Looking ahead, Schreiber is preparing for another major case in Alameda involving the death of a 15-year-old in a 2019 Autopilot crash.
