Gerald Singleton, Managing Partner at Singleton Schreiber in San Diego, was recently featured in a Las Vegas Optic article, "Judge Indicates He Will Allow Payment to Fire Victims for Emotional Losses" which provides a significant update to the plaintiffs in the ongoing Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon Fire lawsuit.
A federal judge signaled that fire victims from the 2022 Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire may be eligible for hundreds of millions for emotional damages, beyond economic losses. This potential ruling would compel FEMA to quantify emotional losses for victims.
Mr. Singleton, representing approximately 1,000 victims in this wildfire lawsuit, estimated emotional damage claims could reach $400 million, emphasizing how it would support “a more equitable distribution of fire compensation funding” especially for renters and low-income individuals.
