Jefferson County Couple Files Lawsuit Over Cram Fire Cause

Rich Barker, Partner at Singleton Schreiber LLP, was featured by Central Oregon Daily News on February 26, 2026, in a video news segment covering a lawsuit filed on behalf of Ronald and Deborah Dees related to the 2025 Cram Fire in Jefferson County, Oregon.

The complaint alleges that Central Electric Cooperative failed to properly maintain electrical equipment and kept power lines energized during extreme fire weather conditions. The lawsuit further alleges that downed power lines ignited the Cram Fire, which burned more than 95,000 acres northeast of Madras and caused widespread property damage.

The Dees seek $10 million in damages for losses to their ranch land, trees, and agricultural operations, as well as evacuation-related impacts. According to reporting, the Oregon State Fire Marshal estimated total damages from the fire at more than $4.1 million. The utility company stated that the fire remains under investigation and declined further comment.

Rich Barker emphasized the broader impact of wildfire devastation on local communities. “When you have this type of devastation, when you have these types of wildfires and they’re getting worse each year, it is so important that those responsible are held to account.”
