KRQE

Brian Colón, Managing Partner of Singleton Schreiber’s New Mexico offices, was featured in a KRQE article covering the recent settlements & payouts of seven pending Hermits Peak Calf Canyon wildfire lawsuits by the federal government under the new FEMA Director, Jay Mitchell.

"The page has been turned under new Leadership. . . What we know is that the claims process before Director Mitchell literally retraumatized northern New Mexico," said Colón. "It put those victims through far more of a difficult procedure than was necessary or required".

The article covers Singleton Schreiber's efforts for the past two years, FEMA's announcement that these settlements will make the Claims Office more efficient in paying funds to victims, FEMA's claims of the number of claims & amounts settled, and how there remains a lot of work to do.

“We continue to advocate for all the victims to be able to recover non-economic damages. That continues to be a portion of the lawsuits that are pending,” said Colón. "At the end of the day, there’s nothing more important than rebuilding and providing hope and compensation to the people of northern New Mexico who have been traumatized by the federal government".
