Brett Schreiber, Partner at Singleton Schreiber in San Diego, was recently featured in a Courthouse News Service article,"French Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Blasted Over Filth in Tijuana River".

The article provides an overview of the mass action lawsuit filed by Mr. Schreiber in San Diego Superior Court on behalf of Imperial Beach residents against Veolia North America on Tuesday. The lawsuit accuses Veolia Water West Operating Services for misconduct, reckless behavior, and for neglecting to maintain necessary infrastructure to prevent the Imperial Beach Sewage Spill, which has resulted in the discharging of fecal bacteria, heavy metals, and banned chemicals into the Tijuana River and causing environmental damage including the deaths of local fish and dolphin populations.

Mr. Schreiber's lawsuit is the first attempt to use California nuisance law to bring a mass action against a polluter.

"If we bring people together and do it at scale, we can cause real societal change, and so that's what we're doing," Schreiber said. "There is power when the people lock arms and stand up together."
