Marisa Ong, Senior Counsel at Singleton Schreiber, was recently featured in a KFOX 14 article. An El Paso family is demanding justice after their dog, Chop, was allegedly shot and killed by Border Patrol agents during a search of their home on September 9. According to the family and their attorney, Marisa Ong, the agents entered the home under the pretense of investigating a tip about undocumented migrants. Seth Daw, the homeowner, cooperated with the agents and warned them that his Rottweiler, Chop, was secured in the bathroom for their safety.
However, while Seth briefly stepped outside to retrieve his ID, an agent reportedly opened the bathroom door, released the restrained dog, and then shot him. Chop died in Seth’s arms nearly an hour later. The family described the act as “senseless, cruel, and entirely avoidable,” and claimed that none of the agents rendered aid to the dying animal. They are now filing a federal SF-95 claim, a required step before pursuing a lawsuit against the government, and are calling for accountability and transparency in what they say was a clear abuse of power
