U.S. Supreme Court Decides to Hear Climate Case Against Exxon and Suncor Entities

Kevin Hannon, Partner at Singleton Schreiber, was featured by EarthRights International in an article titled “U.S. Supreme Court Decides to Hear Climate Case Against Exxon and Suncor Entities,” published on February 23, 2026.

Hannon serves on the legal team representing Boulder County and the City of Boulder in litigation alleging that Exxon Mobil and Suncor entities contributed to climate-related harms impacting Colorado communities. The plaintiffs are pursuing relief under Colorado state law.

The article addresses the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to grant review of a Colorado Supreme Court ruling that declined to dismiss the claims. At issue is whether federal law displaces state law causes of action seeking damages for alleged local climate impacts.

“The Colorado Supreme Court properly ruled that Colorado law is fully capable and appropriate to address climate harms occurring in Colorado. After over seven years, Boulder County and the City of Boulder should be permitted to have their day in court,” said Kevin Hannon, Partner, Singleton Schreiber, LLP.
